Shawn Levy has given Deadpool & Wolverine fans an inside look at the work Hugh Jackman put into his incredible Wolverine performance. The new movie is already a massive hit for Marvel Studios, as the film is predicted to soon pass the $1 billion mark at the global box office. With Levy in the director’s chair, Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine after ‘retiring’ from the role following the character’s death in James Mangold’s Logan in 2017.
In honor of Hugh Jackman’s return and the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, Shawn Levy has joined his cast mates in sharing some behind-the-scenes footage from the film’s production with his fans on social media. The director took to Instagram to share a clip of Hugh Jackman recording ADR (Automatic Dialogue Replacement) during one of the movie’s most memorable fight scenes. As Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine come face to face with countless Deadpool variants, the pair begin mercilessly slaughtering them in a fight scene inspired by movies like Oldboy and 300.
While Jackman and his stunt double, Daniel Stevens, captured the physicality of the fight on set, the actor had to re-record his signature grunts in a sound studio. The post emulates a similar BTS clip of Jackman recording ADR for Logan, which went viral after the movie’s release in 2017. In the post, Levy wrote:
“Like the rest of us, I’ve been addicted to [Hugh Jackman’s] “Logan” ADR video for years. Today I proudly submit the next installment of this legend at work. Sound UP!”
Are Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman Retiring as Deadpool & Wolverine?
After the dust has settled from the tremendous commercial reception to Deadpool & Wolverine — with the movie officially being bigger than Jesus (aka The Passion of the Christ) — fans have numerous questions. As well as being desperate to see Channing Tatum return as Gambit and for Dafne Keen to reprise her role as X23 in the future, fans want to know if Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are done playing their iconic heroes. Jackman has previously retired from the role and has acknowledged the fact that he’s gone back on his words in several interviews.

It literally does not matter how I answer this, because I’m clearly a liar. But what’s so great about my lie is that I believed it.
Ryan Reynolds also addressed his MCU future in a separate interview with Collider following the release of the movie. Unlike Hugh Jackman, who can’t trust his own words, Reynolds gave a more candid response. The actor said that he didn’t go into Deadpool & Wolverine planning to make anymore. That being said, Ryan Reynolds isn’t completely ruling out a return as Deadpool. In his own words:
”
It wasn’t meant to be a commercial for another movie
. It wasn’t meant to be any of that stuff. And, I think I get a great deal of joy making a movie like that. But honestly, right in this moment,
I have no idea if I’ll ever wear that Deadpool suit again
— I hope I do — but I don’t know. Right now’s the time to just kind of hang it up for a bit and see what happens next.”
