Hello and welcome to ESPN India’s daily blog, where we bring you all the updates from the dynamic world of Indian sports, including news, scores, schedule, results and commentary.
After a very busy fortnight with the Paris Olympics, things should be a bit quieter now comparatively, but there are still some ramifications from Paris to deal with.
There’s also the build-up to the Paralympic Games, which begin in a couple of weeks, and India have already been rocked by a big blow.
What’s on today?
Apart from the regular updates, we’ll get you more reactions from Indian athletes who came back after participating at the Paris Olympics.
What happened yesterday?
Wrestling: The deadline for the final verdict regarding Vinesh Phogat’s appeal against her disqualification from the women’s 50kg final of Paris Olympic has been extended to August 16 (9:30pm IST). This is the second time the deadline has been extended for the ad-hoc division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to announce its verdict.
Paralympic Games: India’s top athletes will be back in action in two weeks from now when the Paralympics get underway in Paris on August 28. India are sending their largest-ever contingent of 84 athletes and the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) is hopeful of the contingent going past the 19 medals India had won at the Tokyo Paralympics.
Para sports: Para badminton player Pramod Bhagat, a gold medallist in Tokyo, will not defend his title at the Paris Paralympics after he was handed an 18- month suspension for breaching BWF’s anti-doping whereabout clause.
Badminton: China’s singles start He Bing Jiao has announced international retirement.
