A police-issued gun and ammunition allegedly stolen by four men early this week in north Queensland has been recovered.
The theft allegedly occurred at a secure apartment complex on Wills Street in Townsville about 3.10am on Sunday.
The offenders are alleged to have entered the premises in a silver Holden Commodore with stolen number plates.
After gaining entry to the car park, they allegedly broke into five vehicles, including an unmarked police car.
The group then fled the scene in an allegedly stolen black BMW and the Commodore they arrived in, allegedly taking off with the police-issued gun and ammunition.
The four men, aged 18, 24, 25 and 40 were arrested in raids across Townsville on Tuesday.
They have been collectively charged with 49 offences, including drug and weapon charges.
Police announced late yesterday the gun and ammunition had been found.
The officer involved has been assigned to non-operational duties while an internal review takes place.
