It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia & Abbott Elementary Set to Crossover

It’s official, two hit sitcoms are now all set to crossover as the warped world of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia meets the more wholesome (but no less hilarious) world of Abbott Elementary. A crossover event between the two comedy shows has been churning around the rumor mill for the last few months, with Always Sunny’sRob McElhenney taking to X/Twitter to share an image of himself and co-star Charlie Day alongside Abbott Elementary lead Quinta Brunson.

The trio were pictured on the set of Abbott Elementary, which follows a group of dedicated, passionate teachers working at a Philadelphia public school. Of course, while many will no doubt be wondering what has brought the two shows together, the title It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia should be a dead giveaway.

McElhenney also took to his Instagram story to share another image, this time showing off more of the cast of both shows, including Always Sunny star Danny DeVito and Abbott Elementary actors Tyler James Williams and William Stanford Davis.

The Crossover Will Change Television as We Know It

Brunson has hinted at the two shows coming together eventually thanks to their shared setting. The Emmy Award-winner previously shared with Variety that something exciting was in the works and that it would “shake things up,” saying:

“Deals are made. I want you guys to know that. I’ll say I’m really excited for it. You want to find fun ways to shake things up without abandoning what you what you built. And I’m excited for this crossover of which I will not name with the other project.

I’m excited to just shake things up in this way. I love TV, everyone knows that, but I love TV moments, and I miss those big TV moments. I remember how exciting they were. Anything I can do with ‘Abbott’ to help keep that culture alive of fun TV, I will do. So I think this is going to be fun TV.”

Brunson has previously hyped up the meeting of Janine Teagues with the Paddy’s Pub crew, saying, “it’s really exciting and I think it’ll change television as we know it.” For now, we will just have to wait and see how exactly Mac, Dennis, Dee, and Frank fit into the Abbott Elementary universe…but based on how their interactions with school kids have played out before (they once gave a class of kids weapons which resulted in a Battle Royale-esque scenario) we can no doubt expect all manner of chaos.

The crossover event is due to take place during Abbott Elementary Season 4, with the hit comedy show set to return for its fourth season on Oct. 9 at 9:30 p.m., on ABC. Season 17 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, meanwhile, is now in the works, with the show having already been renewed for Season 18.
