“The wilderness is our prison now…” Saban Films has revealed the official trailer for Whiteout, an intense survival thriller film from Canada. The film premiered under the original title Walking Supply instead, showing at one film festival in late 2023, now set for a November release this fall. That original title is a bit clunky and strange, though Whiteout is also too generic and doesn’t tease anything about this story at all. This the thrilling survival story of three men who escape from a Russian labor camp and must overcome the treacherous wilderness & each other as their journey turns into a brutal fight for survival. Directed by Derek Barnes who states: “As a stuntman turned filmmaker, Walking Supply is a dream come true. From dangling off cliffs to falling into frozen lakes, climbing up mountains and smashing trucks through gates – this is the type of high-octane, independent, venturous project that I’ve always wanted to tackle.” The thriller Whiteout stars James McDougall, Douglas Nyback, & Joel Labelle as the three men chasing freedom, plus Ian Matthews as the angry guy. This harsh thriller film opens with an armed raid on the Russian offices of an international corporation. Brutally kidnapped & taken hostage, some workers end up in a labor camp in the middle of nowhere. Two hardened inmates, Kurt and Anthony (Douglas Nyback and Joel Labelle), save Henry (James McDougall) from the lecherous grip of another inmate and his henchman. Henry finds himself in a position to help his new associates escape, igniting a chaotic prison break that engulfs the men and the other prisoners. Those who make it out alive will face several days of deadly terrain and grueling obstacles in their journey for survival. Whiteout, also titled Walking Supply, is directed by stuntman / action filmmaker Derek Barnes, making his feature directorial debut after a few other short films previously; plus lots of stunt work before. The screenplay is written by Derek Barnes, James McDougall, & Douglas Nyback. Produced by James Mark, Bruno Marino, Todd Slater. It first premiered at the 2023 Another Hole in the Head Film Festival last year. Saban Films will debut Whiteout in select US theaters + on VOD starting November 22nd, 2024 this fall.
