One of the most anticipated films of 2025, Freakier Friday, has recently wrapped filming. Although there is very little known about the plot, and no trailer yet, a paparazzi photo of stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan has leaked online. The image shows the pair on the set of the Freaky Friday sequel, leading to Curtis expressing her annoyance at such leaks happening.
Curtis took to Instagram to share her feelings about the leaked photo circulating the internet. Curtis shared in her post that because other outlets have posted the image, she is using it to her advantage. She elaborates that they have tried hard to keep their story a secret until it releases in theaters next year, and while the leaked image does not spoil the plot of the movie, it does tell everyone one thing about the production.
“OK. Because other outlets have posted it, I am going to take advantage of the intrusion of a paparazzi picture into the creative process of filmmaking. We have tried so hard to keep our story a secret and private until it’s time for release but once in a while an image comes out, and it doesn’t tell you anything about the story or about what’s going on with the characters but it does show the joy and fun that we had making Freakier Friday.”
She then emphasized the movie’s theatrical release, something that was originally in doubt with so many Disney legacy sequels landing on Disney+ instead. She added:
“We know it will be the experience that you will have in the theaters next year. Yes, you heard me… The theaters. The place we all go and enjoy a shared experience in the dark while munching popcorn and candy and laughing together and sometimes crying together. Until then…….”
Although information about the plot has yet to be announced, Curtis praised co-star Lindsay Lohan when she announced filming was near-completed last week. Since then, filming has concluded with both Curtis and Lohan expressing their excitement about the release of the film. Lohan also took to Instagram to thank the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the film, adding that her heart is so full and “It’s been such a great time making this film.”
What We Know About Freakier Friday
First announced in 2023, the film has been in production since June.. Along with Curtis and Lohan, Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao are among the returning cast. Freakier Friday also sees the addition of Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons. Freakier Friday will be directed by Nisha Ganatra, who is known for her work on Late Night and The High Note and written by Jordan Weiss, who created Hulu series Dollface.
The first movie, Freaky Friday (2003), is a reboot of the 1976 film of the same name, starring Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris. They are based on Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel. It was very successful at the box office, garnering $160.8 million on a $20 million budget. A first look of the sequel was revealed at the D23 expo on August 9, with Curtis and Lohan taking the stage in a surprise announcement where they revealed the title of their long-awaited sequel. The two stars both gushed about their experiences of reprising their roles, returning to the Disney lot, and both having the opportunity to play mothers.
