Jason Segel, Samara Weaving & More Join Jorma Taccone’s Thriller

After directing two of the most underrated comedies of the past decade or so, “MacGruber” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” we haven’t seen a new film from director Jorma Taccone since 2016. Thankfully, that’s ending soon, as he is set to direct “The Trip.”

According to 87North and XYZ Films, Jorma Taccone has begun production on the new thriller, “The Trip.” The film is set to star Jason Segel, Samara Weaving, Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, Paul Guilfoyle, and Keith Jardine. The film follows a dysfunctional couple (Segel and Weaving) who head to a remote cabin to “reconnect,” but each has secret intentions to kill the other. The film is inspired by Tommy Wirkola’s Norwegian thriller, “I Onde Dager,” which starred Noomi Rapace and Aksel Hennie

“I can’t wait to see Jorma bring his totally singular sensibility to the material,” said Wirkola. “That, combined with this killer cast, makes me beyond excited that this film will truly stand out in the cinematic landscape.”

Jorma Taccone added, “I’m a huge fan of Tommy’s work, and I love the original film. I have a totally singular sensibility, and I can’t wait to see what I bring to the material.”

Jorma Taccone is one-third of the sketch comedy group The Lonely Island, with childhood friends Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer. As mentioned, Taccone is probably best known for his two films, “MacGruber” and “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.”

Segel is probably best known for his run of comedies in the ‘00s, which includes “Knocked Up,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and “I Love You, Man.” Most recently, he can be seen in the comedy series, “Shrinking.” Weaving is best known for her roles in film such as “Mayhem,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “The Babysitter,” and “Ready or Not.” In recent years, she’s shown up in films such as “Chevalier,” “Babylon,” and “Azrael.”

With production beginning now, it would make sense that we could see “The Trip” arrive sometime in 2025.
