Jimmy Fallon and Sean Evans recently shared a laugh as they looked back on Selena Gomez‘s “horrible” experience trying the Hot Ones challenge during a 2019 appearance on The Tonight Show.
Fallon brought it up during his recent appearance on Hot Ones, where he said Evans “almost killed an American treasure.”
As Evans laughed, Fallon recalled just how much Gomez struggled during the hot wings challenge.
“Selena Gomez, she left and ran out; I went and knocked on her dressing room door [and] she was throwing up in her sink,” Fallon recalled. “I go, ‘Selena,’ and she goes, “Get the F out!’ with a devil voice.”
“I’ve never seen her like that — spit was dripping out of her mouth — and I go, ‘I’m so sorry,’” Fallon continued. “And we didn’t talk to each other for another three years.”
After noting this was his “favorite 30 Rock memory ever,” Evans added, “When she said that to you and you closed the door, you looked at me and you go, ‘She’s doing great,’” with a thumbs-up.
During Gomez’s 2019 appearance, Evans explained that they were doing an “abbreviated” version of the challenge which, he warned, means they “very rapidly get to the last dab, a hot sauce more than 400 times hotter than a jalapeño.”
Gomez already appeared fearful, telling Fallon that she may “regret this.”
While the first few wings were “not bad” for her, the challenge really came when they tried Da Bomb Beyond Insanity Sauce.
“What the hell!” she exclaimed after trying it.
Evans continued questioning them as they struggled with the hot sauce. But she fired back that she couldn’t “remember anything right now,” telling Evans, “This is horrible.”
Fallon also pointed out that Gomez was crying from the hot sauce. But she still added the last dab of hot sauce to the wing, as part of the show’s tradition.
“I hate it,” she rasped.
By the end of the segment, Fallon looked like he was going haywire as Evans challenged him to perform three impersonations for Gomez to identify. But Gomez could barely play along. Instead, she turned to Evans with tears coming down her face and asked, “Why do you do this to people?”
However, it might be time for a second round. Gomez certainly kept her cool during the challenge – at least until she made it back to her dressing room, apparently.
