Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara looked all loved up in Los Angeles over the weekend amid rumors that the two are married.
The “Joker” actor and the “Side Effects” actress stepped out for a rare red carpet appearance together at the 2024 Academy Museum Gala, held at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on Saturday.
Phoenix, 49, and Mara, 39, adorably held each other close while posing for pics on the red carpet.
At one point, Phoenix even crouched down and lengthened the train of Mara’s dress when he noticed it was out of place for the photos. He also stepped out of the frame so the actress could have her shining moment with some solo shots.
Mara –– who wore a pink sheer A-Line gown with floral embellishments and a high-waisted briefs underneath –– held her hand to her face and appeared to giggle before flashing a smile.
For her beauty look, the “A Ghost Story” actress styled her hair in a slicked-back bun and opted for minimal makeup for the event.
Meanwhile, Phoenix looked sharp in a classic all-black suit with a black bowtie and black dress shoes. He did not appear to be wearing a wedding band.
The couple –– who have always maintained a private relationship –– rarely pose for photos together and even opted for separate shots at the premiere of the actor’s new film, “Joker: Folie à Deux,” in Hollywood, Calif., earlier this month.
Phoenix sparked speculation that they had secretly tied the knot after he referred to Mara as his “wife” on a Sept. 29 episode of the “Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso” podcast.
The Oscar winner recalled enlisting the help of “my mom and my wife” while writing his 2020 Oscars speech.
“Rooney was like, ‘That’s what you should say!’” he said at the time.
Neither Phoenix nor Mara have clarified their relationship status. The couple got engaged in 2019 after meeting on the set of “Her” in 2012 and striking up a romantic relationship in 2017.
They share two children together: a 4-year-old son named River and a second child, whose name, gender and date of birth have not been disclosed.
