Kamala Harris to join Biden in Nevada campaign stop next week

Vice President Kamala Harris is returning to Nevada.

A Biden-Harris campaign event will take place in Las Vegas on Tuesday, July 9.

This is the vice president’s sixth trip to battleground Nevada this year and her 14th since taking office.

Details on the time and location of the campaign event were not clear, but the announcement comes after a Biden v Trump debate that many pundits labeled a poor showing for Biden.

Meanwhile, House Democrat Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas has publicly called on Biden to “withdraw” from the 2024 campaign. Doggett is the first elected Democrat to make such a push.

“Having devoted his life to public service, President Biden has achieved much for our country at home and abroad,” Doggett said in a statement published on The Center Square.

“Stepping up to lead a nation in crisis, President Biden helped rebuild our country from the devastation of a pandemic, an insurrection, and years of Trump wreckage. Yet, for more than a year, many Americans have indicated dissatisfaction with their choices in this election.”

If Biden were to bow out, Harris would be one of the options for Democrats to try to keep Trump from re-entering office.

Other names floated out there include California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, and Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer, but a new CNN poll finds 45% of registered voters would support Harris if she were in a matchup with Trump.

That is better than Biden, who trailed Trump by 6 points in the poll. Meanwhile, House Democrat James Clyburn of South Carolina told MSNBC Tuesday that he would support Harris if Biden exits the campaign. Clyburn endorsed Biden in 2020, a move that helped Biden win The Palmetto State that year.

Previous visits from Harris to Nevada include January meetings with union members in Las Vegas, a speech at Mojave High School in March, and a post-presidential debate rally in Las Vegas on June 28th.
