Typhoon Carina intensifies habagat; continues to bring more rain

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 is still raised in Batanes as typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) continues to intensify over the Philippine sea on Tuesday afternoon, according to the state weather bureau.

In its latest cyclone update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that Carina was last spotted some 325 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes.

Heavy rainfall warning up in Southern Luzon, Western Visayas

Some areas in Southern Luzon and Western Visayas were placed under orange and yellow rainfall warnings on Tuesday afternoon and may experience possible flooding, the state weather bureau said.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), areas under the orange rainfall warning will receive between 15 millimeters (mm) and 30 mm of rain for the next two hours, while those under the yellow rainfall warning will experience between 7.5 mm and 15 mm.

Ten areas in Luzon are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 on Tuesday as Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) maintained its strength, according to state meteorologists.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its early morning update, said Carina was spotted some 380 kilometers east-northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, packing maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

Tropical storm Carina (international name: Gaemi) slightly intensified while moving east of Casiguran, Aurora, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Based on its latest cyclone update, Pagasa said Carina was last spotted 490 kilometers east of Casiguran in Aurora, carrying maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 90 kph.
