M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap Will Be Available for Digital Rental Soon

M. Night Shyamalan‘s newest thriller, Trap, only hit theaters in early August, but by the end of that very same month it will be available to watch at home. Thiough that’s not to say the psychological thriller was a flop. In fact, it generated over twice its $30 million budget. The movie’s quick home release is merely part of how release strategies are done these days, much to the chagrin of some. The Josh Hartnett-led film will be available to rent and purchase digitally on August 29, per Prime Video. But, for those who still like to add the newest flicks to their physical media collections, there’s a bit more of a wait. Those individuals will need to wait until November 5 to pick up the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, or DVD to their shelves.

Trap follows Hartnett’s Philadelphia firefighter, Cooper Adams, as he takes his daughter, Riley, to a pop concert. But, Adams isn’t just a firefighter and father, he’s also a serial killer. And, once he and Riley get to the concert, it becomes apparent that there’s a suspiciously large police presence. Adams becomes suspicious and, after speaking with a vendor, has those suspicions confirmed: the concert is serving as a trap to catch him.

When Adams isn’t busy checking out the status of his latest victim on his cellphone, he’s trying to find a way out. But it’ll be tough, and the chances of his daughter finding out his true identity as “the Butcher” are as great as him getting pinched by the cops. Will he be able to escape?

Josh Hartnett Takes the Lead in Trap

It’s nice to see Hartnett taking the lead role in a theatrical feature again, and he excels in the role. Hartnett took a break from the big screen after the underrated 30 Days of Night, moving to the small screen with the critically lauded Penny Dreadful. But, after appearances in the Guy Ritchie one-two punch of Wrath of Man and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (not to mention his scene-stealing role in the Academy Award for Best Picture-winning Oppenheimer), it seems he’s back. And audiences are very pleased to see him.

While the movie was met with mixed reviews from critics, praise was heaped on Harnett for his “committed performance,” according to the critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes. And credit for the effectiveness of Shyamalan’s newest is also due to Ariel Donogue as Hartnett’s on-screen daughter. Trap is worth getting caught up in, and viewers will soon have the chance to do so from the comfort of their couches.

Trap
will be available to stream at home courtesy of digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play, Fandango At Home, and more.
