Mac Jones is entering a new era with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he started things on a positive note in a 26-13 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

In his preseason debut on Saturday, Jones finished with 98 passing yards on 9-of-11 passing. He couldn’t find the endzone, but still looked solid in limited playing time.

While it’s hard to take much from a preseason game, Jaguars fans were pleased with Jones’ first game with his new team.

Mac Jones is the best player on the field, by quite some distance

While it’s unlikely Jones will surpass Trevor Lawrence as the Jaguars’ starter anytime soon, he showed signs that he could be of great use if Jacksonville needs to turn to its backup quarterback at any point this season.

The 25-year-old and former first-round pick is coming off a tumultuous era with the New England Patriots that saw him put together a strong rookie year but decline over the last two seasons.

Jones is looking for a fresh start and could have just what he needs in Jacksonville. Eventually, he could be ready to take on a starting role once again.
