Madge just shot Bambi – Broncos legend becomes first casualty of new regime

Michael Maguire has removed Brisbane Broncos legend Allan Langer from his onfield role with the team but says he will continue to be employed in a revised role.

The foundation player is a key feature of Broncos and Queensland Maroons games and is considered a “heart and soul” member of the NRL club, who he has served with distinction since the club was founded in 1988.

Maguire officially moved from Sydney to Brisbane this week and has already started to put his stamp on Red Hill with the decision to remove Alfie from the coaching staff.

Langer was very close to former coach and teammate Kevin Walters, and had reportedly been mulling over his own resignation from the club.

“Alf will be in the organisation,” Maguire told News Corp.

“I haven’t really had a chance to see him properly yet, but I have spoken to Alf over the phone and he’s a great man.

“I’ve been able to spend some time with him over the years.

“Now that I’m moving up, I want to sit down with Alf and see how best it all fits in together.

“He’s obviously one of the greats of the club and such a popular figure in the game,” he said.

“I think everyone enjoys Alf, but it’s just best how we put our program together.

“I’m looking forward to sitting down with him over the next couple of weeks to talk about where he fits in.

“Alf can play so many different parts within the Broncos organisation.”
