Mariah Carey has proved once again that she reigns supreme when it comes to holiday music and topping Billboard charts, but this year’s celebration was just a little more special than the others.
The 55-year-old singer’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” has been in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts for the last six years, and this year was no different. The song officially made the number one spot on the Billboard charts as Carey was performing at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Monday, December 9.
In a clip from the event that was posted on Reddit on Wednesday, December 11, the mother of two can be seen on stage in the middle of her show when the announcer shared news that “All I Want For Christmas” had reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 again.
The clip later shows that the star was then joined by her twins, Moroccan and Monroe, both 13, who gift their mom a celebratory bouquet of flowers in honor of her achievement in a rare public appearance. The singer receives the massive bundle of flowers from her daughter as the crowd cheers and she thanks everyone before putting down the flowers and continuing her show.
Fans of the “We Belong Together” singer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and Reddit to share their thoughts on the singer’s success and comment on her children’s presence.
“I guess All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey is probably going to be on like every Billboard year-end list until 2082 unless Billboard decides to change their rules,” wrote one fan, while a second fan chimed in and noted, “Wow Monroe is so tall. I can never keep track of how old celebrity kids are, I had to Google to see that the twins are 13 already.” A third fan, who actually attended Carey’s concert on the night of the announcement, shared a video and wrote, “This was such an AMAZING moment to share with the Queen in NC and she deserves it so much!”
Carey originally released “All I Want For Christmas Is You” in 1994, but the song only managed to make the Billboard top 10 for the first time 23 years later in 2017. The song went on to make the top five in 2018, and has charted at number 1 every year since.
The songstress most recently embarked on the Mariah Carey Christmas Time tour in early November, which is expected to run through December 17, with a total of 21 dates. The singer recently announced that she had to cancel her appearance at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh just hours before the start of the show on Wednesday, December 11, due to a case of the flu.
Carey shares twins Moroccan and Monroe with ex-husband Nick Cannon. The couple met in early 2008 and tied the knot in April of the same year. The two later separated in 2014 and finalized their divorce in 2016. Though they are no longer romantically linked, the parents are reportedly on good terms and do their best to co-parent their twins after their split.
