The Matildas are alive at the Olympic Games by the skin of their teeth after coming from three goals down to defeat Zambia 6-5 in a thrilling and at times absurd Group B match in Nice.
Skipper Steph Catley scored a double – via a free kick and a penalty – to drag Australia back into a game at one point it looked certain to lose.
Michelle Heyman then pounced for the winner in the 90th minute, her second goal of the match, to pull off the most unlikely victory for the Tillies.
That gave the Matildas three desperately needed points to get their Paris 2024 campaign back on track after a 3-0 loss to Germany in the first game.
More to come.
