The 2024 election is approaching fast, with less than two weeks to go until election day on Nov. 5, and the campaigns are both winding down and heating up as a result. It’s been one of the weirdest in recent memory, what with President Joe Biden dropping out of the race after his disastrous and concerning debate performance. Hollywood always likes to speak out, with the loudest voices usually being liberals, but there have been some surprising endorsements of Donald Trump recently (Zachary Levi, Dennis Quaid, Kelsey Grammer, Jim Caviezel, James Woods, etc.), and now we can add Mel Gibson to the list.
While leaving the airport, a member of the paparazzi asked Gibson about the coming election, as reported by TMZ. “Oh man, that’s a big question,” said Gibson. “I don’t think it’s going to surprise anyone who I vote for.” The reporter then asked if Trump was a bad guess. “I think that’s a pretty good guess,” responded Gibson. “I know what it would be like if we let [Kamala Harris] in, and that ain’t good. A miserable track record, a falling track record, no policies to speak of, and she’s got the IQ of a fence post.” You can see the video below:
Mel Gibson is known to go against the grain of Hollywood, with his strong Catholic faith influencing many of his choices. He’s traditionally conservative, but not in the blindly supportive way of some Republicans; he was vocally against the Iraq War and called out George W. Bush’s role in that. He was further critical of the Bush administration, and when Obama was elected, Gibson said, “He is a man with an impossible task on his hands… He got left a mess and I wish him all the best, but I don’t think he’s going to fix it in five minutes and probably not in his entire tenure.”
Who Has Endorsed Donald Trump and Kamala Harris?
Generally, the Democrats receive the majority of celebrity endorsements, which tend to be looked down upon as the opinions of ‘coastal elites.’ Whether these endorsements move the needle much at all is difficult to determine, though when you consider that Kamala Harris supporters Beyoncé and Taylor Swift have a combined 600 million followers on Instagram, it’s reasonable to assume that some people may be swayed to vote based on their vocal support.
