Metaphor: ReFantazio – How To Open The Book Of Apocalypse & Beat The Secret Boss

While playing through Metaphor: ReFantazio, you probably noticed an unusual book sitting in Akademia called The Book of Apocalypse, but what you may not have realized is that this book contains a secret boss. However, to unlock this book and face the boss, you’ll first need to complete the game itself.

While playing through Metaphor: ReFantazio for the first time, if you attempted to interact with the Book of Apocalypse in the back of Akademia, you know that it was locked. Unfortunately, no matter how many times you interact with it, it will never change during your first playthrough. More will simply tell you it’s dangerous and to leave it alone.

Since you won’t be able to open the book in your first playthrough, no matter how many times you try, you will have to wait until you have reached the end of Metaphor: ReFantazio and started NG+.

While the book remains in the back right corner under lock and key during the first playthrough, once you have progressed far enough in your New Game+ playthrough to access Akademia, you’ll notice that the book now sits to the left of More’s desk. Furthermore, it is no longer under lock and key.

Metaphor: ReFantazio has four different endings, depending on the player’s pivotal decisions in its final chapters. Here’s what they all mean.

At this point, you can simply interact with it, and you will be able to enter a boss fight with the Redscale Apocalypse Dragon. However, even though you can enter this fight right away, your levels will have reset in New Game+, so you will be poorly prepared. This is an extremely difficult enemy, and it’s recommended that you wait until you are closer to the end of your New Game+ playthrough before you take on this fight.

Furthermore, while being on a New Game+ file is one of the prerequisites to fighting this boss, there is one other. Regardless of what difficulty you used while completing your first playthrough, you cannot be on the Storyteller difficulty if you want to face the Redscale Apocalypse Dragon. You will need to play on at least the Easy difficulty or higher to engage in the fight. This is meant to be a hard fight, which is why it is locked behind NG+, so playing on Storyteller would defeat the purpose.

How To Defeat The Redscale Apocalypse Dragon Secret Boss

Prepare With Proper Equipment & Items To Give Your Party The Advantage

First and foremost, you will want to wait until you have reached level 70 if you want a pretty balanced fight. You may have to grind a bit to reach this level, but if you don’t, you will only be causing yourself more frustration by facing this enemy under-leveled. However, the higher you are, the easier this fight will be. Regardless of whether you’re at the recommended minimum level, you will still have to put in some effort to succeed against the Redscale Apocalypse Dragon as depicted in Trophy Guides YouTube video above.

As for equipment and items, some will be more helpful than others, but for the most part, you’ll want to utilize the best equipment you have access to at this point. The key things you’ll want to consider are items that provide fire resistance and slash resistance, as well as items that will boost your attacks. While the specifics are flexible for the most part, depending on what you have and for whom, try to use the Reverent Crown and the Knight’s Last Stand, if possible.

Metaphor: ReFantazio – Max Follower Bonds Guide (Social Links)

Metaphor: ReFantazio has the Bonds system similar to Social Links from Persona. These extend to both party members and NPCs, granting 14 in total.

Knight’s Last Stand is a pair of boots that allow survival at 1HP from what would otherwise be a killing blow. It can be equipped with any Archetype and provides a defense of 165. Reverent Crown Gear is a crown that is exclusive to the protagonist and increases your turn icons by one at the start of the turn, something that is going to be essential as you need every bit of edge you can get. Additionally, try to bring as many Sublime Spoonfuls as you can into the fight.

For the Archetypes used for this fight, you have some flexibility depending on how you want to inherit skills and assuming that you have all the Archetypes unlocked again at the time that you enter this fight. As for which skills you have your selected Archetypes inherit, you’ll want to focus mainly on passive buffs for your party as well as moves that can provide buffs, debuffs for the enemy, or healing. You should have at least one party member with a primary focus on supporting the party.

Before Heismay becomes a Follower, he makes a tough boss in Metaphor: ReFantazio. You’ll need to overcome his clones to win.

As for the last bit of preparation, you’ll want to avoid bringing any items that drain or repel attacks unless you want to face severe consequences. Regarding the actual fight, your priority should be buffing the party and de-buffing the Redscale Apocalypse Dragon first. Once you’ve accomplished that, then you can move on to attacking. Though obvious, you’ll want to make an effort to do as much damage as you can while these buffs are active.

If you are just doing this for the achievement or reward and have no interest in the actual fight, you can cheese this fight by grinding until you have made a large surplus of Sublime Spoonfuls. This will allow you to essentially make sure the Dragon never even has a chance to attack.

Once they wear off, you’ll want to prioritize reapplying them, but watch your health as this is going to be more difficult mid-fight after you’ve been taking hits. When you’re pretty sure your party can’t take anymore, you’ll want to begin using your Sublime Spoonfuls as a last resort to add as many turns as you can and defeat the Apocalyptic Dragon boss. Once the fight is over, you will receive the Closing The Book achievement and the Gaius Regalia.

The Gaius Regalia is an equippable item that fully recovers both HP and MP at the end of every battle. This item can be equipped with any Archetype and is one of the most valuable items in the game, so you can use it for the rest of the late-game fights in your New Game+ playthrough of Metaphor: ReFantazio.
