Michael B. Jordan is lining up his sophomore feature as a director after helming the hit Creed III. Jordan will star in and direct The Thomas Crown Affair for Amazon MGM Studios, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The feature reteams Jordan with his Creed III studio after the film earned $276.1 million globally. The star has long eyed Thomas Crown, first attaching himself as an actor in 2016. In addition to acting and directing, he will also produce via his Outlier Society banner along with Elizabeth Raposo.
Amazon MGM intends to give the film an exclusive, global run in movie theaters.
The series dates back to Norman Jewison’s 1968 with the original starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. McQueen played a wealthy businessman who happened to be a bank robber on the side. When an insurance investigator (Dunaway) gets on his trail, the two have an affair as he plans another heist.
Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo starred in a 1999 remake.
Genre favorite Drew Pearce, who was in theaters this year with The Fall Guy, wrote the script Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson wrote a previous draft. Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff will also produce, with Alan Trustman, writer of the original film, getting executive producer credit.
Coming up, Jordan has Ryan Coogler’s untitled event film from Warner Bros., which arrives March 7, 2025.
