NASCAR News: Hailie Deegan Holds Team Talks For 2025 Xfinity Return

Hailie Deegan is reportedly in discussions to join Haas Factory Team (HFT) for the 2025 Xfinity Series. This potential move comes after a notably troubled stint with AM Racing, punctuated by her premature exit this season.

The vacancy at HFT opened following the promotion of Cole Custer, the current Xfinity Series champion, to pilot the No. 41 Ford in the Cup Series for Gene Haas’ newly formed team. Joe Custer, the Chief Operating Officer of HFT, confirmed the talks with Deegan. He commented, as quoted by Essentially Sports:

“Yes, we’ve spoken with her. Obviously, she was with one of our technical partners, so that’s a challenge, right? To see what the future is with her. We believe there’s more in her, and we want to be part of that, but that’s for future conversations.”

The speculation around Deegan’s move has not been without its share of controversy. Throughout her three-year tenure in the Craftsman Truck Series and her rookie season in Xfinity, Deegan failed to secure any race wins and often finished towards the back of the pack. This trend continued into 2024, ultimately leading to her dismissal from AM Racing.

The team announced on July, 8, as Newsweek Sports previously reported:

“AM Racing and Hailie Deegan have decided to part ways, effective immediately.

“We are grateful for Hailie’s contributions and dedication as the driver of the No. 15 Ford Mustang during her time with the race team. We wish Hailie the best in her future endeavors and look forward to her continued success on and off the track.”

Deegan also posted to social media to confirm her shock exit from AM Racing, writing:

“Beginning this season, I had a lot of excitement and hope in taking my next step in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. It’s something I’ve been working towards for years and always dreamt about. I worked hard to prepare for this season after the team pursued me to drive their car. Unfortunately, it has not turned out the way that I expected. There are always several reasons within a race team as to why things do or do not work, but sadly our goals no longer align. With that being said, myself and AM Racing will be parting ways.

“The only thing I am focused on is getting back to being competitive. That is ALL that matters to me. I’m working as quick as possible to find the best opportunities to get back to the track.

“I’m thankful for the following that I have and everyone who supports me, it’s truly only me that knows the whole story and what I need to succeed.

“See you at the track, soon.”

This potential team change has sparked a considerable backlash among the NASCAR fanbase, particularly on social media, where many have expressed doubts about her capabilities at a championship-contending level. Criticisms range from her racing performance to speculative comments about the undue influence of her sponsors, including Monster Energy.
