Reacher star Alan Ritchson will continue to carve out a legacy as an action movie superstar with the upcoming Netflix and Lionsgate sci-fi action thriller, War Machine. The project has taken a major step forward, as production has now begun on the sci-fi action outing in Australia’s Victoria state, with The Hitman’s Bodyguard director Patrick Hughes all set to tell this tale of a group of Army Rangers facing off with a mysterious, and very deadly, threat.
According to Variety, filming War Machine will take place “around Bright and Myrtleford as well as Melbourne and Docklands Studios, location attraction agency VicScreen said.” The report goes on to reveal that “production will run from September to December and that a New Zealand unit will film for three weeks straddling November and December.” Filming the project will reportedly bring an estimated “2,100 job opportunities in Victoria support 80 local businesses and inject over A$73 million ($49 million) directly into the Victorian economy.”
Alongside Alan Ritchson, the rest of the cast includes Dennis Quaid (Reagan, The Day After Tomorrow), Stephan James (The Piano Lesson, If Beale Street Could Talk), Jai Courtney (The Suicide Squad), Esai Morales (Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning), Blake Richardson (It Only Takes a Night), Keiynan Lonsdale (The Flash) and Daniel Webber (The Dirt. The Punisher). You can check out the synopsis for War Machine below.
“In the final 24 Hours of the world’s toughest selection process, a team of Army Rangers encounter a threat beyond their imagination.”
While War Machine does not yet have a release date, based on the production schedule, we can no doubt assume that the movie will debut next year. War Machine is all set to hit theaters in Australia courtesy of Roadshow Films, with the action flick debuting on Netflix internationally.
Alan Ritchson Will Return as Reacher in 2025
Alan Ritchson has seen his star rise quickly following his debut as the nomadic avenger Jack Reacher in Prime Video’s Reacher. The first season introduces Ritchson as the title character, a former U.S. Army Military Police Major now living as a nomad who suddenly finds himself dragged back into action when he is arrested for murder. Based on the series of novels by author Lee Child, Season 2 wrapped up back in January and finds the heroic nomad on another mission after members of his old military unit start turning up dead.
The series has been a massive hit for the streaming platform, and a third season is now in the works. It has since been revealed that the next Jack Reacher adventure will be based on the seventh book in the series, “Persuader,” which finds the character going undercover to rescue an informant held by a haunting foe from his past. Ritchson will, of course, return to lead the series, with Season 3 all set to add several intriguing new characters to the roster, including several villains that will rival Reacher’s size and strength.
