“They’re not us. How could they possibly understand our best interests…” 🤖 Netflix has debuted a second trailer for the upcoming sci-fi film called The Electric State, the next big project from The Russo Brothers after making The Gray Man for Netflix. Set for release streaming in March 2025 (not in theaters). This is adapted from the spectacular graphic novel by Simon Stålenhag featuring an alternate-world future where machines and humans co-exist. Let the robots run free! A teen girl and her robot embark on a cross-country mission in this science fiction action thriller reminiscent of Stranger Things and Black Mirror. This movie stars Millie Bobby Brown as Michelle, Chris Pratt as Keats, along with Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, and Woody Norman. Plus Anthony Mackie, Woody Harrelson, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, and Alan Tudyk are providing their voices to the robots. This is a very short trailer with even less footage than the teaser, setting up the concept of the story and why the robots are being kept in this “electric state”. Still hard to tell if this will be any good. What do you think?

The Electric State is a spectacular adventure set within an alternate, retro-futuristic version of the 1990s. Millie Bobby Brown stars as Michelle, an orphaned teen navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons & mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising. Everything she thinks she knows about the world is upended when she’s visited by Cosmo, a sweet, mysterious robot who appears to be controlled by Christopher — her genius younger brother whom she thought was dead. Determined to find the beloved sibling she thought she had lost, Michelle sets out across the American southwest with Cosmo, soon finding herself reluctantly joining forces with Keats (Chris Pratt), a low-rent smuggler & his wisecracking robot sidekick Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a walled-off corner in a desert where robots now exist entirely on their own, Keats and Michelle find a strange, colorful group of new animatronic allies — and begin to learn that the forces behind Christopher’s disappearance are more sinister than they ever expected. 🤖 🤖
The Electric State is directed by The Russo Brothers, aka Anthony & Joe Russo, both directors of the films Welcome to Collinwood, You Me & Dupree, Captain America: Winter Soldier & Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War & Endgame, Cherry, and The Gray Man previously. The screenplay is written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (You Kill Me, The Chronicles of Narnia movies, Captain America, Pain & Gain, The Gray Man). Based on the acclaimed book by Simon Stålenhag. Produced by Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi, and Patrick Newall. Netflix will debut The Electric State movie streaming on Netflix starting on March 14th, 2025 early next year. First impression? Looks good?
