Offender sets themself alight during ram raid and fire in Melbourne

An unknown offender is believed to have accidentally set themselves alight after a ram raid and fire at a business in Melbourne’s inner suburbs overnight.
Police believe a group of offenders used a stolen black BMW X5 to ram the garage door of a cycling business on Lygon Street in Brunswick about 2.55am. 

Officers believe the group used the stolen car to ram the door two or three times, before jumping out of the BMW and entering the store.

Police remain on the scene. (Nine)

The ramming then led to a fire inside the business, according to police.

Witnesses have reported seeing one of the offenders fleeing the scene with one of their arms on fire.

The stolen car was left behind, with the group fleeing on foot towards Nicholson Street.

The store was significantly damaged along with a business nearby.

Detectives are investigating a ram raid and fire at a Brunswick cycling store early hours this morning. (Nine)

Investigators believe the BMW was stolen from a Heatherton address on October 3.

A crime scene has been established and investigations are continuing.
