My Favorite Cake Trailer

“You have to stand up for yourself. The more submissive you are, the more they’ll push you down.” Curzon has revealed an official trailer for an Iranian filmmaker titled My Favorite Cake, one of the big breakout films from the 2024 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. The film premiered in the competition and won a few side prizes but mostly earned some of the best reviews of the festival. It’s a sweet, tender, heartfelt story of an Iranian woman living in Tehran. Seventy-year-old Mahin, solitary until now, chooses to revive her love life. A chance encounter becomes an unforgettable evening with the two. The wonderful Lily Farhadpour stars as Mahin, who has been living alone in Tehran for decades since her husband died and her daughter left for Europe. In a random chance encounter, she meets the humble, lonely taxi driver Esmail co-starring Esmail Mehrabi. This is the story of their brief time together. This film deserves most of the praise it has received so far, especially for the two unforgettable performances from the lovely actors. It’s worth a watch.

A beautifully delicate and nuanced concoction of a film, My Favourite Cake, co-written and directed by the Iranian filmmakers Maryam Moghaddam and Behtash Sanaeeha, explores themes of love, regret and second chances with nuance and grace. It’s set against the backdrop of a country with strict rules and restrictions, especially when it comes to the rights and freedoms of women. My Favorite Cake, also known as Ein kleines Stück vom Kuchen in German or also Keyke mahboobe man in Persian, is co-written and co-directed by two Iranian filmmakers Maryam Moghaddam & Behtash Sanaeeha, both directors of the Iranian films The Invincible Diplomacy of Mr Naderi and Ballad of a White Cow previously. It’s produced by Gholamreza Mousavi, Behtash Sanaeeha, Etienne de Ricaud, Peter Krupenin, & Christopher Zitterbart. This initially premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year. Curzon will release My Favorite Cake in UK cinemas on September 13th, 2024 this fall. There’s no US release set – stay tuned. Any good?
