Paraguay’s Luana Alonso is ready for another shot at Olympic glory.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, the 20-year-old swimmer proudly announced she qualified for the Paris Games next month in what will be her second appearance at the Olympic level.
“It’s official! Qualified for the Paris Games 2024 ! My heart is happy to represent the country once again! Thank you to my family, friends and sponsors for making this possible!” Alonso posted. “Let’s go Paraguay.”
Alonso posted in 2022 about getting a tattoo of the Olympic rings on her hip.
“Just joined the Olympic Rings tattoo club,” she wrote on Instagram.
The Nike athlete, who boasts more than 220,000 followers on the social media platform, received a slew of supportive messages from fans.
“Wishing you the best of luck,” one Instagram user posted while another replied, “You don’t need Paris, Paris needs you queen.”
One fan, according to The Sun, also put in a unique request.
“Congratulations. Could you consider representing us for Miss Universe too?” they allegedly asked.
Alonso began swimming competitively at 11 years old, according to Clarín, an outlet based in Argentina.
She competed in the 100m butterfly at the Tokyo Games in 2021 and expressed gratitude for those cheering her on.
“Thank you all for the support!” Alonso exclaimed on Instagram in July 2021.
Last year, Alonso participated in the 2023 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships as a member of the SMU Mustangs.
Alonso finished the year at SMU with career-best times in the 100 and 200 fly, per the university’s website.
In addition to posting pics and clips from swimming events on social media, Alonso also gives fans glimpses of her travels.
She has previously shared snaps from her trips to Qatar and Mexico.
The 2024 Olympics begin on July 26.
