A tree came crashing down into a Staffordshire church as Storm Darragh caused early chaos. The large tree came crashing down into Trinity Methodist Church in Shenstone, a village which sits between Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield, on Thursday night (December 5).
Dramatic photos show the tree was uprooted by strong winds ripping up its roots, splitting the ground and pavement, and a neighbouring fence in New Road. The tree’s trunk was blown into the side of the church, with branches sprawled across its rood.
The tree has landed in the Wesley Hall part of the church. The area by the uprooted tree has now been cordoned off.

Parishioners were urged to ‘please pray’ in a post by the Tamworth and Lichfield Methodist Circuit. In a post on Facebook the organisation said: “This evening, at Trinity Methodist Church over in Shenstone, the strong winds have blown a large tree over outside the church.
“Unfortunately the tree has collapsed onto the church garden and the Wesley Hall (a section of the church building). Please pray for the folk at Shenstone as they make arrangements for the clear up – and prayers of thanks that no one was in or near the building when it happened.”

Storm Darragh is expected to cause further chaos on Friday, Saturday and into Sunday, with a rare red warning issued by the Met Office for 3am to 11am, meaning there is a danger to life. That warning covers western and southern areas of Wales and the Bristol Channel.
A yellow warning of strong winds is in place in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands lasting from 3pm on Friday (December 6) to 6am on Sunday (December 8), with gusts up to 60mph.
