Peter Parker Swings Into Animated Action In Disney+ Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Trailer

What If…? may be over, Beyond The Spider-Verse may be at least a good couple of years away, but we’ve not long left to wait before our next dose of animated Marvel action thwips its way onto our screens. Yes, Marvel Animation’s hotly anticipated Spidey series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is only a month away from hitting our screens, and to mark the countdown commencing, today the streamer revealed the first official trailer for the show. So, for your first proper look at Hudson Thomas’ Peter Parker in action — and first glimpses at Colman Domingo’s Norman Osborn, Hugh Dancy’s Otto Octavius, and more — check out the teaser for the series below:

Everything about this new trailer for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man — which started life as a Spider-Man: Homecoming prequel project and has now spun off and become its own alternate Marvel universe entirely — seems tailor-made to show off how the series is fusing the classic and contemporary in fresh and exciting ways. From the remixed riff on the iconic 60s Spider-Man TV show theme, to the Steve Ditko influenced comic panel animation and modern social media motifs (this Peter Parker livestreams his wall-crawling escapades on Insta), to the way comic book deep cuts like Spidey’s Future Foundation suit are given fresh twists and origins all speaks to a show that’s setting itself up to do something different with our beloved web-head. Including, and especially, seemingly making Domingo’s Norman Osborn a mentor to Peter Parker — and clueing him in on Pete’s secret identity early doors, which will make for a very interesting dynamic.

In terms of a plot synopsis for the 10-episode series, which is already well into development on Season 2, Marvel and writer Jeff Trammell are keeping their cards close to their chest at the moment. “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming a hero, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots,” reads the vague official description of the show. We do at least know however from a recently released prequel comic for the show that Thomas’ Peter Parker became Spider-Man after being bitten by a spider that fell from one of Doctor Strange’s portals, though what the significance of this specific spider might be remains to be seen currently.

Elsewhere, we also know that the show’s ever-growing ensemble is set to include Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio as Kingpin, Eugene Byrd as Lonnie ‘Tombstone’ Lincoln, Grace Song as Peter Parker’s best friend (and Runaways alum) Nico Minoru, and Zeno Robinson as Harry Osborn. Over the course of the season, we can also expect to see such Spidey rogues gallery greats as Chameleon, Scorpion, Rhino, Tarantula, Butane, Speed Demon, Unicorn, White Rabbit, The Lizard, and The Wizard (voiced by Paul F. Tompkins).

The web of intrigue being spun about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man gets thicker by the day. We’ll see exactly where it’s all leading when the show hits Disney+ on 29 January, 2025.
