Pia Cayetano files COC for Senate reelection

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Pia Cayetano formalized her Senate reelection bid on Sunday as she filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 elections.

Cayetano is among the 12 senatorial aspirants that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently endorsed.

The senator is a member of Nacionalista Party, a part of the newly-formed coalition “Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas.”

If she is reelected, she will be joining once again her brother Alan Peter Cayetano in the Senate.

Makati City Mayor and senatorial aspirant Abby Binay recently said that she has “no issue” being with Cayetano on the same senatorial slate as they can work together and still have “differences.”

Binay also shared that the two of them are no longer friends.

The rift between the Cayetanos and Binays revolves around the 30-year territorial dispute between the cities of Makati and Taguig involving several barangays, including the 10 Embo (enlisted men’s barrios) barangays.

The Supreme Court ruled that Embo barangays and Fort Bonifacio are under the jurisdiction of Taguig City.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Elections recently announced that the 10 Embo barangays can now vote for their districts following their inclusion in the city’s two districts.
