Queensland’s Little Green Island, owned by movie supremo Douglas Gresham, for sale after 15 years

A Queensland island owned by a film heavyweight has hit the property market for the first time in 15 years.

All 25.5ha of Little Green Island, off Mackay, and the stylish three-bedroom house on it are currently owned by British-American actor and producer Douglas Gresham, who is best known for bringing The Chronicles Of Narnia books to the big screen.

Unlike other islands off Australia’s coast that have been sold as leasehold properties, Little Green Island is freehold land.

That gives the buyer the opportunity to own something “truly magical”, Harcourts agent Tina Sander said.

“Think about the most amazing tropical island getaway you’ve ever had,” she told 7NEWS.com.au.

“It measures up to that when you’re physically on the island.

“It’s nothing like I’ve seen before in my career.”

The house was designed by celebrated architect Tone Wheeler for Edward De Bono, the doctor and author who founded the concept of lateral thinking.

Gresham reportedly bought the island in June 2009 for $2.45 million.

The 78-year-old is a stepson of Narnia creator C.S. Lewis, and was producer for the 2000s film series based on the books.

He also has acting credits in the movies.

Sander, who’s been in direct contact with Gresham’s sons, said he is no longer able to visit the island.

The island is a seven-minute boat ride from the mainland.

The house has been “beautifully maintained and cared for” by a fulltime caretaker and features a deck that overlooks the Coral Sea, Sander said.

The island is set to go to auction on September 16.
