How far are you willing to go for revenge? That’s the question at the heart of the new film, “The Amateur.”

As seen in the trailer for the film, “The Amateur” tells the story of a CIA surveillance employee who finds out that his wife has been murdered. Initially, he begs his bosses to put him out in the field so that he can get revenge. After he’s told no, the CIA employee takes matters into his own hand and goes after the men who killed his wife on his own.
The film stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne. “The Amateur” is directed by James Hawes. The filmmaker is probably best known for his extensive work on TV series, including “Slow Horses,” “Raised by Wolves,” and “Snowpiercer.” He made his feature directorial debut with 2023’s “One Life.”

Here’s the synopsis:
Charlie Heller (Malek) is a brilliant, but deeply introverted decoder for the CIA working out of a basement office at headquarters in Langley whose life is turned upside down when his wife is killed in a London terrorist attack. When his supervisors refuse to take action, he takes matters into his own hands, embarking on a dangerous trek across the globe to track down those responsible, his intelligence serving as the ultimate weapon for eluding his pursuers and achieving his revenge.
