“If we don’t find him, she’ll be gone forever.” Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for a generic thriller called Amber Alert, which is an extremely generic and uninteresting title for yet another movie like this. Oddly, director Kerry Bellessa made in a movie in 2012 also titled Amber Alert, with a similar plot – which means she’s remaking her own film but with a more famous cast this time and a bit more money it seems. This new movie opens in September. An ordinary rideshare becomes a high-stakes game of cat and mouse when Jaq & Shane receive an alert of a child abduction on their phones. Quickly realizing they are behind a car that matches the description of the kidnapper’s, Jaq & Shane desperately race against time to save the child’s life. Starring Hayden Panettiere, Tyler James Williams, Saidah Arrika Ekulona, and Kevin Dunn. These kind of films are problematic because they’re playing on the deep fears of regular people to create generic content they can make money off of – which seems icky despite the facade of good intentions.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Kerry Bellessa’s film Amber Alert, direct from YouTube:
