There are very few interviews over the last 20 years that caused as much of a scandal as the one between a BBC journalist and Prince Andrew several years ago. The interview was meant—for the Prince’s team—to be a way to clear his name from any wrongdoing with Jeffrey Epstein. But what ended up happening was the exact opposite, leading to the new series, “A Very Royal Scandal.”

A spiritual successor to 2018’s “A Very English Scandal” and 2021’s “A Very British Scandal,” “A Very Royal Scandal” details the events that took place leading to the fateful interview, as well as the fallout that occurred immediately afterward. And to say there was fallout is a gross understatement, as Prince Andrew never recovered from the scandal.
The series stars Ruth Wilson as journalist Emily Maitlis and Michael Sheen as Prince Andrew. And judging by the footage in the trailer, it looks like the two actors nail their roles, especially in terms of looks. Sheen, in particular, is almost unrecognizable.
“A Very Royal Scandal” is written by Jeremy Brock and directed by Julian Jarrold. The filmmaker is no stranger to TV work, with his most recent directing gigs being for series such as “The Good Mothers,” “This England,” and “The Crown.”
