Savannah Guthrie Shocks ‘Today’ Viewers By Appearing Bright And Early With Hoda Kotb After Covering The Election: “How Are You Still Awake?”

Viewers were bewildered to see Savannah Guthrie at the NBC desk this morning after the Today Show host provided around-the-clock coverage on the 2024 presidential election late into yesterday evening.

Guthrie, who led the charge on NBC’s election coverage last night with Lester Holt, was up bright and early this morning at Hoda Kotb‘s side when The Today Show began airing at 8 a.m. ET.

“If you are just waking up, a long election night stretching into the morning,” she told viewers, before adding, “I’ve had three cups of coffee lined up here.”

Guthrie was on the air last night from 6:30 p.m. ET until well into the night, after having hosted The Today Show yesterday morning, as well.

“The race is still too close to call in some of those western battlegrounds in Michigan,” she said. “But the bottom line is clear as day. Donald Trump once again the president elect, the 45th president set to return to the White House.”

Viewers at home were impressed by Guthrie’s commitment. But some were also concerned.

“I wake up, I see @SavannahGuthrie on TV…come home from work she’s on TV. I wake up today, she’s STILL on TV. Has she slept!?” one viewer wrote on X.

“The amount of caffeine that has to be pumping through Savannah Guthrie’s body is probably alarming. Girl has been killing it on TV for 24 hours. Toasting my coffee to her,” another fan wrote.

Another commented, “I don’t know how you are doing it..no sleep?  Looking fresh as a daisy…keep up the good work!”

Guthrie appeared optimistic on Election Day ahead of her evening on the air. She shared a photo of the encouraging note her daughter wrote her before the show, which read, “You got this! You’ve worked so hard!”

She also wrote that she was going to be on NBC “all night long” in a social media post that showed Rockefeller Center. “Always so proud to walk into @nbcnews on Election Night,” she wrote.

But Guthrie appeared somber as she and Kotb reported on the election results.

NBC’s election coverage will be continuing throughout the day as the network reportedly plans to air at least 24 straight hours of election programming.

The network already pre-empted Today With Hoda & Jenna Wednesday morning, while Late Night With Seth Meyers and Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon were also pre-empted Tuesday evening.
