“They chose me for a reason.” Universal Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for Drop, another new Blumhouse horror movie opening in the next few months. Drop is the latest movie made by Christopher Landon, known for the Happy Death Day & Happy Death Day 2U, and Freaky movies previously. First dates are nerve-wracking enough. Going on a first date while an unnamed, unseen troll pings you personal memes that escalate from annoying to homicidal? Blood-chilling. Director Christopher Landon returns to the thriller genre with the playful, keep-you-guessing intensity with this of-the-moment whodunnit where everyone in the vicinity is a suspect… or victim. Drop stars Meghann Fahy and Brandon Skienar as two people meeting up for a first date at a fancy restaurant, along with Violett Beane, Jacob Robinson, Ed Weeks, Reed Diamond, Gabrielle Ryan, Jeffery Self, and Travis Nelson. This do-what-you’re-told concept isn’t new, but this looks like a fun twist on it with Landon’s usual freaky horror twists. So who is it?

Emmy nominee Meghann Fahy plays Violet, a widowed mother on her first date in years, who arrives at an upscale restaurant where she is relieved that her date, Henry (Brandon Sklenar) is more charming and handsome than she expected. But their chemistry begins to curdle as Violet begins being irritated and then terrorized by a series of anonymous drops to her phone. She must tell nobody and follow instructions or the hooded figure she sees on her home security cameras will kill Violet’s young son & babysitting sister. Violet must do exactly as directed or everyone she loves will die. Her unseen tormentor’s final directive? Kill Henry. Drop is directed by acclaimed American genre filmmaker Christopher Landon, director of the films Burning Palms, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, both Happy Death Day & Happy Death Day 2U, Freaky, and We Have a Ghost previously; he also wrote the upcoming Heart Eyes horror film. The screenplay is written by Jillian Jacobs & Chris Roach. Produced by Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Cameron Fuller. Made by Blumhouse and Platinum Dunes. Universal will debut Landon’s Drop in theaters nationwide on April 11th, 2024 this spring. Who’s down?
