Netflix has officially axed yet another popular series. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is the latest victim of the streamer’s vendetta against good shows. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off brought Edgar Wright back to the franchise as an executive producer, along with almost the entire voice cast from Wright’s original movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Bryan Lee O’Malley, who served as co-developer and an executive producer on the show, declared that Netflix have axed the series. “We were recently informed that the show will NOT return,” O’Malley wrote. Thankfully, it’s not all bad news. Unlike Netflix’s other canceled shows, like Glow, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off closed out its story within the first season. His tweet continued:
“As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope.”
In the post, O’Malley also praised the entire cast and crew of the series, and described the show’s creation as a miracle. “It’s been one year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out,” he wrote, continuing, “It was an honor to work with all of the cast & staff around the world. It was like conducting a symphony orchestra every day. From the moment [Ben David Grabinski] sparked the idea, the project felt like a one of a kind miracle.”
Fans Are Bittersweet about ‘Scott Pilgrim Takes Off’s Cancelation
When the series was first announced, some expected the show to be a direct, animated adaptation of Edgar Wright’s movie. Instead, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off took the story in a new direction. Each of the Seven Evil Exes were given their own episodes and internal rivalries. Scott Pilgrim was also sidelined for the first half of the show, giving Ramona Flowers more agency as a character.Scott Pilgrim Takes Off was a major hit with fans and critics, holding a 96% critics score and an 85% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

I didn’t think I would get even this, and I’m thankful I did,” wrote @SolidTexture, with @TAHK0 saying, “but I’m happy we got the one — it’s more than I ever expected.”
