What to make of the pile-ons
Injury report after this year’s national draft expected to be long. Each player drafted has been crushed by excited friends and family. I don’t mind it even though it’s a bit meh.
The No.51 pick is Sam Davidson
Forward Sam Davidson is heading to the Whitten Oval in Melbourne’s west and the start of his career at the Western Bulldogs.
The No.50 pick is Charlie West
Collingwood, after a couple of picks within close range of each other, pick up Charlie West. West is a key forward prospect from South Australia.
The No.49 pick is Cooper Bell
Gold Coast snare Cooper Bell, in a raid on the GWS Giants academy.
Boxing on at St Kilda
The Saints get their mid, trading up the board to get West Australian midfielder Hugh Boxshall at pick 45 before the Eagles got their hands on him at pick 46. St Kilda are backing themselves to become the best runners in the competition. They had their eyes on Magarey Medallist Harry Boyd but appears as though he will do a pre-season with the club and potentially be a pre-season supplemental selection period addition.
The No.48 pick is Lucca Grego
West Coast lob for Lucca Grego, a midfielder from the west of Melbourne.
The No.47 pick is Joel Cochran
Joel Cochran joins Collingwood. The Pies have a super-mature list for the 2025. But now they’ve picked up this prospect from the Sydney Swans academy. The Maggies made a bid on him and this time and Bloods shied away from picking him up.
Collingwood enter the draft
With a pick in the late 40s, finally it’s Collingwood’s time.
Sydney’s mature approach
Werribee premiership player Riley Bice gets his AFL chance with the Sydney Swans. The 24-year-old played three VFL matches with GWS Giants in 2022 and gets his chance for the Swans, having played in the Ovens and Murray League in 2023.
The No.46 pick is Tom Gross
Tom Gross becomes a West Coast Eagle. Draft picks going at a steady pace now.
