Sergio Busquets was sent off for dissent as Inter Miami lost 6-1 to FC Cincinnati on Saturday.
The former Spain international was shown two yellow cards by referee Chris Penso in a matter of seconds in the second half at TQL Stadium.
The first was for arguing against a foul called on Leonardo Campana before Busquets’ continued protesting prompted a second caution moments later.
The dismissal is only the fourth of the 35-year-old’s long career.
Down 5-1 at the time of the sending off, Miami went on to concede a further goal with 10 players.

Yuya Kubo scored twice for Cincinnati with Luciano Acosta, Pavel Bucha, Yamil Asad and Gerardo Valenzuela also getting on the scoresheet.
Serhiy Kryvtsov got the sole reply for Miami.
It is a first defeat for Miami since May, a 3-1 loss against Atlanta United.
Miami are currently playing without Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez with the two stars representing Argentina and Uruguay at Copa America, which is being held in the United States.
The win sees Cincinnati move top of the Eastern Conference standings above Tata Martino’s side and ahead of them in the race for the Supporters’ Shield.
