3 days ago, Shaquille O’Neal’s youngest son uploaded a reel of his training session which garnered over 199k views. He not only got attention from his followers, but his family also chimed in to celebrate Shaqir’s hard work. And now the family has another reason to celebrate after the 21-year-old has decided on his next destination. Plus, an emotional reason awaits Shaqir as he gears up for his future.
On Instagram, the Florida A&M team added a post with the caption, “The Rattlers added forward Shaqir O’Neal, the son of @shaq, after transferring from Texas Southern. Do you think Shaqir O’Neal will live up to his father’s legacy at Florida A&M?
After averaging just 1.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.4 assists, Shaqir surely wants to improve on that record and is providing proof of his hard work. Following the footsteps of his youngest sister, Shaqir is off to Florida Rattlers.
Me’arah O’Neal is the youngest child in the family, also considered the best by her siblings. She has already made her base in Florida last November when she chose them over LSU. The current Florida Gators Women’s Basketball player took to her story and wrote, “time to work ❤️🩹.” That’s not the only family connection in Florida, in fact, one close relative was a FAMU alumni.

Shaquille O’Neal’s sister Ayesha Harrison-Jex, was an FAMU alumni. She not only graduated with a bachelor’s degree but with a master’s degree in business administration as well. Unfortunately, Harrison-Jex passed away in October 2019 after a three-year battle with cancer.
“Man , i can’t even think straight … y’all know how big of a family man I am and honestly I’m very hurt..I wish I got to say bye . I know you’ll be watching over us. I love you auntie , I’m going to make you proud ..❤️ RIP,” Shareef O’Neal wrote on X.
Shaqir has a huge responsibility on his shoulders to honor his dad Shaquille O’Neal’s legacy as well as his aunt Ayesha Harrison-Jex. And currently, he seems to be on the right track as the current head coach is quite happy with Shaqir’s inclusion. “Shaqir has played in one of the premier programs in our conference and for a great head coach,” said head coach Patrick Crarey II, crediting his versatility, athleticism, and experience as the key differentiator.
