Star Wars, one of the longest-running and lucrative franchises, is currently in dire need of a film to fill the void of the last five years. Thankfully, several Star Wars projects are in the works, but Shawn Levy
‘s untitled film is still among the most highly anticipated. While many details about the film remain tight-lipped, the director of Deadpool & Wolverine recently provided an important update on the project.
Originally announced in 2022 as part of the new Star Wars entry following the conclusion of the sequel trilogy, Shawn Levy’s film has certainly been a heated topic among the franchise’s fans. Especially after the success of Deadpool & Wolverine, which, in some ways, saved the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the hopes of the new Star Wars film succeeding have skyrocketed. While speaking with IndieWire, Levy offered an interesting update, revealing how things have been going and who he’s been working with to bring the project to fruition. In his words:
Because “Deadpool & Wolverine” was so fulfilling, I’m quite happily open to whatever’s next. And yes, there’s a ‘Star Wars’ movie that I’m developing, actually with our “Adam Project” screenwriter, Jonathan Tropper. You never know what’s going to become undeniable and get made next.”
While there isn’t much information regarding the upcoming Star Wars film just yet, Levy previously provided some insights into how he plans to develop it and the positive changes he hopes to bring to the franchise on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He stated,
“I’ll say that the experience of crafting this story has forced me to think about that question. Because there’s only so many times that Star Wars movies can revisit the same section of the timeline, and so it’s really forced me — because I don’t want to do a Star Wars movie that is redundant to others, nor am I interested in doing one that has to serve another movie. I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me, both in tone and characters, so I think that there is certainly the Force and a connection to something bigger than our individual selves. And the way that that can make us powerful, those themes, combined with visual delight and wish fulfillment, that’s Star Wars to me.”
Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Film Could Revive Franchise’s Glory Days
Honestly, Star Wars is still as entertaining as ever, thanks to the latest TV show additions such as The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka, but the sequel trilogy has been a major letdown for fans who believe that modern Star Wars projects should return to their roots. While little is known about Levy’s film, given how he handled Deadpool & Wolverine, there is no doubt that the filmmaker has the vision to bring something new to the table, making the franchise’s fans happy on the big screen after a long time.

Having said that, Levy may also decide to bring Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker and other former characters into the film, although this is simply a rumor that surfaced at the beginning of 2024. So, how do you think Shawn Levy’s take on the galaxy far, far away will benefit Star Wars in the long run?
