“Do you think you can come in here and just take what you want?” Voltage Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a dark thriller titled 1 Million Followers, another cautionary tale about social media obsession and fame. This is set for a VOD releease at the end of October is anyone is interested in seeing how her story plays out. Small-town girl Karissa Denys (1,404 followers) doesn’t fit the influencer mold. Still, after being discovered by social media star JackofSpades (24M followers), she’s flown to Thailand with a chance for a lucrative sponsorship deal. As she navigates the glamorous yet ruthless influencer world, Karissa uncovers a darker reality. Betrayal, backstabbing, & a sinister superyacht turn her dream into a fight for survival. Karissa (Shelley Q), an 18-year-old from a small farm in Idaho, gets invited over to Thailand by mega influencer Jack Mayer, for a chance at a lucrative sponsorship. She quickly befriends other influencers and enters a competition to win a $500,000 sponsorship from Vrap Vodka. Emboldened by the chance to save her family farm, Karissa pushes herself to get more followers by posting more daring photos on the beach and at the clubs. Her success is threatened when the group is kidnapped as part of a conspiracy they never saw coming. 1 Million Followers is directed by the American producer / filmmaker Harvey Lowry, director of the films A Play on Words, Monday at 11:01 A.M., Cassidy Way, Union Bound, A Deadly Dance, Without a Body, The Christmas Trap, The Competition, and Blood Pageant previously. The screenplay is written by Paul Kim. Produced by Kelli Kaye, Harvey Lowry, and Rachel Morgan. Voltage Pictures will debut Lowry’s 1 Million Followers thriller in select US theaters + on VOD starting October 25th, 2024 this fall.
