Due to the pandemic and the writer’s strike, the TCA Awards could not have an in-person ceremony for the past four years. That changed this evening when the collective membership met in Pasadena to honor the best in television over the past 12 months. The big winner of the night? FX’s critical and streaming hit, “Shōgun.“

The new adaptation of the classic James Clavell novel took four awards including the lauded Program of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Drama, Individual Achievement in Drama (Anna Sawai), and Outstanding New Program. Max’s “Hacks” won two honors including Outstanding Achievement in Comedy and Individual Achievement in Comedy (Jean Smart). This was the second time both the series and Smart won the TCA honor.
Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries, or Specials went to Netflix breakout, “Baby Reindeer.” Peacock’s streaming hit “The Traitors” took a very competitive Outstanding Achievement in Reality while “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV” won Outstanding Achievement in News and Information.
Two Disney+ programs also won TCA Awards. “Doctor Who” won Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming while “Bluey” won Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming. “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA” gave Netflix a second win of the night in the Outstanding Achievement in Variety, Talk or Sketch field.
Additionally, “Twin Peaks” was honored with the Heritage Award in recognition of its cultural enduring significance and impact. Previous recipients include “The Golden Girls,” “The Sopranos,” and “The Carol Burnett Show.” Andre Braugher, who passed away unexpectedly in December, received the organization’s Career Achievement Award. Recent honorees of this award include Mel Brooks, Ted Danson, Steve Martin, and the aforementioned Smart.
