Silo Season 2’s Finale Includes A Moment So Clever It Initially Feels Like A Plot Hole

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Silo season 2, episode 10, “Into the Fire.”Silo season 2 splits its time between Silo 17 and Silo 18, and although it somehow manages to maintain the same level of pace and intrigue, there is one moment in particular that at first appears to be a narrative oversight – but it isn’t. The second run of Apple TV+’s dystopian sci-fi includes an intricate series of events that could go wrong both in the world of the show and in the finale’s script. Thankfully, what initially feels like a mistake eventually turns out to be a brilliant part of Mechanical’s plan in Silo season 2, episode 10, “Into the Fire.”

While Silo season 2’s ending includes a handful of huge cliffhangers, fans can at least rest safe in the knowledge that the show has been confirmed for two more seasons and will end on its own terms. So, the Silo cast will return twice more to wrap up the saga. This unconventional multi-season renewal proves that Silo is considered one of the best Apple TV+ sci-fi shows by the platform as well as its subscribers. One of Silo‘s biggest strengths is its impressive attention to detail, even when it seems like an error is being made.

The Rebels Could Easily Have Overpowered The Raiders In Silo 18’s Makeshift Prison

Bernard’s forces were occupied with Mechanical’s fake bomb on the generator

Mechanical’s plan in the Silo season 2 finale comes in several stages, and it initially seems as though it’s going wrong. When Shane McRae’s Knox and the other rebels are taken into custody in the makeshift jail further up Silo 18, it doesn’t appear to make any sense why those being arrested are acting so compliantly. There are hardly any raiders there compared to the number of rebels present, so Knox and his allies could easily have broken out of the improvised pen and resumed their disruptive activities. Thankfully, they didn’t, as this would have been the wrong move.

Once Dr. Nichols (Iain Glen) detonates the bomb on the stairs, most of the raiders dispatched by Mayor Holland (Tim Robbins) are trapped in the Down Deep, and the only real group stopping the rebels from continuing up to IT are the handful of those who stayed behind in the jail.

Being pulled up to the middle levels is a major part of the rebels’ plan, as they’re basically just biding their time while pretending to be hopelessly apprehended. Plus, most of the remaining guards are deputies from the Sheriff’s Department – all of whom have shifted allegiances to the rebellion.

The Slow Unveiling Of The Rebels’ Real Plan In “Into The Fire” Is 1 Of Silo’s Best Moments So Far

Silo thrives on its various mysteries. Slowly revealing what is really going on makes the adaption of Hugh Howie’s novels very appealing, but it can also get a little frustrating not having the full picture for episodes at a time. So, the rebels’ real plan compared to what’s falsely leaked to Bernard is a thrilling change of pace. The plan is supposedly foiled and then turns out to be successful within the space of a single episode, and it’s done with such sleekness that it’s impossible to deny the brilliance of this aspect of Silo season 2’s finale.
