Geralt has a new animated look, a new voice, and a release date thanks to the first clip from the upcoming animated movie, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. While the live-action The Witcher-verse will see Liam Hemsworth traversing the continent, searching for Ciri (Freya Allen) and hunting monsters for coin, the upcoming animated film features the most lauded Geralt actor to date. Doug Cockle voiced Geralt in all threeThe Witcher video games (produced by CDProjektRed), and is finally giving his gruff version of Geralt his big screen debut. Revealed at the end of the clip, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep will be released exclusively on Netflix on February 11, 2025.
The clip was released as part of Netflix’s annual Geeked Week, and reveals a scene between Geralt and Jaskier/Dandelion (Joey Batey). Opening with an introduction from Cockle, Geralt and Jaskier discuss the witcher’s developing connection with the movie’s new character, Essi Daven (Christina Wren), a life-long friend of Jaskier’s. As usual, the bard gets on Geralt’s nerves, whilst making some genuine arguments about Geralt’s self-imposed emotional isolation. As well as his own emotions, Geralt will also be battling a new kind of monster in the animated film… mer-people. “That’s right! Very soon Geralt is going to be back in action battling not only man and monsters, but also mer-people,” says Cockle in the introduction. Check out the clip below:
Alongside Cockle and Batey, Sirens of the Deep sees Anya Chaltora reprise her role as Yennefer of Vengerberg. Sirens of the Deep is directed by Kang Hei Chui (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf), from a script written by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin. The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich serves as a producer, while Andrezej Sapkowski, the author of The Witcher novels, serves as a creative consultant.
What Is The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep About?
While the live-action The Witcher series has moved onto Sapkowski’s meatier novels, Sirens of the Deep expands one of the Polish author’s short stories into a full-length feature film. Based on the short story “A Little Sacrifice“ from the second book in the series, “The Sword of Destiny,” the new movie sees Geralt accompanying Jaskier as the bard is hired to play at a wedding. Not without his own contract, Geralt is hired by a local prince who has fallen helplessly in love with a mermaid who doesn’t love him back. The short story focuses on the relationship between humans and the mer-people, whilst exploring Geralt’s own fractured relationship with Yennefer. The short story is, well… short, meaning Kang Hei Chui has greatly expanded the story and its themes to make it fit a feature-length runtime.
As for the live-action The Witcher universe, production is currently underway on Season 4. Still reeling from the loss of Henry Cavill, who departed the series after the third season (most likely from creative differences), Liam Hemsworth is wearing the white wig for the final two seasons, which will bring Netflix’s time on The Continent to a close. The planned The Rats spin-off series has also been scrapped by Netflix.
