A woman has sparked discussion among social media users after sharing how she and her sister stay connected “for safety” despite living in separate countries.
On June 9, TikTok user @primiyakiru posted a clip on the platform showing how she and her sibling—who live in England and Canada, respectively—stayed in touch by live-sharing their locations with each other throughout the day, something that made them feel safe and bonded.
“My sister and I sharing our locations for safety,” the creator wrote in text that appears in the video, adding in the caption, “Always on high alert.” Throughout the clip—which has received 2.5 million views and more than 257,000 likes—the voice of a character from the Netflix show On My Block can be heard saying: “OK. Don’t worry, girl, I got your back … from right here.”
According to the digital map seen in the video, in which the creator’s and her younger sister’s live locations were geotagged, the creator lives in North Greenwich in London, while her sister lives across the pond in Whitchurch-Stouffville near Toronto.
Newsweek has contacted @primiyakiru for comment via TikTok.
In the comments section, viewers were quick to share their opinions, with some reassuring the creator of her younger sister’s safety.
“I can tell you she’s safe if she’s in Stouffville,” one viewer wrote.
Another added: “First time I’ve ever seen Stouffville on a TikTok. Very safe town lemme tell you.”
“It’s the thought that counts sis,” the official TikTok account for Trivago, the hotel comparison site, commented.
Another user said, “Me putting my husband as my emergency contact even though he’s in Sweden and I’m in California.”
“My sister and I literally,” a commenter added.
Other users implied that if an emergency were to arise, the sisters were at too great a distance to help each other straight away.
“Moved to Toronto Friday and my mum is doing the same thing from London,” one viewer wrote, “keeps checking to make sure I’m safe like girl what you going to do if I’m not?”
Whitchurch-Stouffville, located in the Greater Toronto Area, is known for providing a safe and family-friendly environment. The town’s crime rates are lower than the national and provincial averages, making it an attractive place for families and individuals seeking a peaceful community. The town has a total population of about, 49,864 people, according to the 2021 Canadian census.
