Son of Trump shooter Ryan Wesley Routh reveals gunman’s hatred of ex-President…but insists attack is ‘nothing like him’

THE son of would-be Trump assassin Ryan Wesley Routh has revealed his dad hates the ex-President.

But Oran Routh, 35, said the alleged attack is “nothing like” his father – a registered Democrat and former supporter of Trump’s.

The second attempt on the ex-President’s life in only a matter of weeks has shocked the world with Routh able to get within 400 yards of Trump with an AK-47.

Oran said his father “hated” Trump as “every reasonable person does”.

But he claimed the alleged assassination attempt didn’t sound like his “loving and caring” dad.

He told the Daily Mail: “He’s not a violent person.

“He’s a hard worker and a great dad. He’s a great dude, a nice guy and has worked his whole f****** life.”

Oran said he didn’t believe his father owned a gun and that he worked as a building contractor in Hawaii.

“He’s my dad and all he’s had is couple traffic tickets, as far as I know… That’s crazy. I know my dad and love my dad, but that’s nothing like him.”

Routh, 58, had been to Ukraine in 2022 following Vladimir Putin’s brutal invasion and supported humanitarian causes.

Posts on his X account reveal the father wanted the US to send soldiers to defend Ukraine against Russia.

He also backed the idea of sending Afghan commandos to fight in Ukraine, following them fleeing their own country.

Oran told the Guardian: “My dad went over there and saw people f****** fighting and dying…

“He … tried to make sure s*** was cool, and s*** was not cool.”

Trump failed to say at last week’s debate that he wanted Ukraine to win the war, pledging to end it even before he assumed office if he won.

Oran said: “Meanwhile, this guy’s [Trump] sitting behind his f****** desk, not doing a goddamn thing.”

In another interview with CNN, Oran said his father was “honest” and “hardworking”.

He said: “I don’t know what has happened in Florida, and I hope things have just been blown out of proportion, because from the little I’ve heard it doesn’t sound like the man I know to do anything crazy, much less violent.”

Routh lived in Hawaii and had fallen out with Oran, the son revealed, after they had “grown apart”.

Martin County Sherriff William D. Snyder said registered Democrat Routh “was not displaying a lot of emotions” when police arrested him.

He added that the suspect was “relatively calm” and “never asked” why he was being detained.

Routh is understood to have voted from Trump in 2016 before turning on the multi-millionaire candidate.

He is understood to be listed as a Democrat on the voters’ register in North Carolina and had donated more than $100 to ActBlue, which processes donations for Democrats.

But on social media, he also expressed support for a White House ticket combining the unsuccessful Republican presidential contenders Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley.

In an April post on X, tagging President Biden’s presidential account, he wrote that Biden’s campaign should be: “called something like KADAF.”

“Keep America democratic and free. Trumps should be MASA …make Americans slaves again master. DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose.”

In June 2020, Routh appeared to say that he had voted for Trump in 2016.

But he since had withdrawn his support: “While you were my choice in 2106, I and the world hoped that president Trump would be different and better than the candidate, but we all were greatly disappointment and it seems you are getting worse and devolving.

“I will be glad when you gone.”

Routh was allegedly convicted in 2002 of possessing a weapon of mass destruction.

He was found with a full automatic machine gun after barricading himself inside a roofing business.

Public records appear to show Routh was charged with more than 100 offences between 1998 and 2019 and has been arrested eight times.

At the debate last week, Trump said he wanted to save lives and didn’t give details on his peace plan.

He went on to raise how much it was costing the US to back Ukraine and slammed Joe Biden for not solving it.

Trump said: “Biden had no idea how to talk to him [Putin], he had no idea how to stop it and now you have millions of people dead and it’s only getting worse and it could lead to World War III.”

Harris lambasted him on betraying America’s allies and trying to befriend tyrants.

She said: “Understand why the European allies and our NATO allies are so thankful that you are no longer president and that we understand the importance of the greatest military alliance the world has ever known, which is NATO.”

Trump flees would-be shooter on golf course

On Sunday, the ex-US president, 78, was rushed to safety as Secret Service agents opened fire on a gunman brandishing an AK-47 in nearby bushes.

Trump was playing a round of golf when the agents spotted someone they suspected of aiming the weapon from nearby bushes.

The would-be assassin – who managed to get within 400-500 yards of Trump – attempted to flee the scene in an SUV but was caught by officials and taken into custody.

An AK-47 style rifle, backpacks and a GoPro camera were found discarded by the golf club.

According to Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, Routh managed to get around 400 to 500 yards away from Trump.

He claimed that a Secret Service agent patrolling the course ahead of Mr Trump observed a gun barrel protruding from a perimeter fence.

“He immediately engaged that individual, at which time the individual took off,” said Bradshaw.

Officials said it’s unclear whether the suspect fired first – or at all – or whether just the Secret Service did.

The FBI released a statement two hours after the incident claiming the attack ‘appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump.’

An eyewitness saw the suspect fleeing from the bushes in a black Nissan.

Trump declared on social media: “There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE

“Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again. May God bless you.”
