Spider-Carnage Cosplay Resurrects the 90s’ Most Terrifying Symbiote

Marvel was a wild place for comics in the ‘90s, with Spider-Man
getting his fair share of events that were amped up to eleven thanks to the decade’s inherently over-the-top and extreme nature, mainly stemming from his infamous Clone Saga and the unexpected debut of Peter Parker’s double, Ben Reilly, as Spider-Man. Thanks to the talent of the cosplay community, Ben Reilly’s brush with the Carnage
symbiote has been given the live-action treatment in a way that begs to be explored on the silver screen.

Recently resurrecting this Spider-Man x Carnage character on Instagram, Christian (@christianperera_) is a creative talent who has run the gamut dressing as some of the most popular characters across nerdom, dabbling in the worlds of comics, video games, television, and anime to great effect.

Designing and wearing costumes that see Christian slip into the shoes of Dragon Ball’s Cell, Mortal Kombat’s Sub-Zero, Marvel’s Green Goblin and Doctor Doom, DC Comics’ Cyborg and Black Mask, and at least a dozen more, this Spider-Carnage outfit falls in line with Christian’s previous efforts, proving his skills as one of the community’s best creators.

A hybrid character introduced in 1996’s Amazing Spider-Man #410, by Tom DeFalco and Mark Bagley, this issue acts as part two of the epic Web of Carnage event that saw Ben Reilly’s Spider-Man taken over by a Cletus Kasady-less Carnage symbiote, creating the terrifying character known as Spider-Carnage. Terrorizing New York City while under Carnage’s influence, Ben is eventually able to shed his alien tormentor thanks to the efforts of the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker, after Pete uses “microwave projectors” to force Carnage out of Ben. Unfortunately, this led Carnage to immediately re-bond with Cletus, reforming this murderous villain.

There are few serial killers more sadistic and brutal than Carnage, but he’s taking that sadism and turning it towards a community that deserves it.

Posing with a clawed hand that partially obscures his face, Christian’s Spider-Carnage immediately elicits goosebumps as he perfectly embodies this creepy combination of Spider-Man and Carnage in a way that does the character’s comic book counterpart justice. Texturing his suit with raised black webbing, perforated white eye lenses, and Ben’s signature wrist accents and spider logo, Christian nails not only Ben’s familiar yet unique version of Spider-Man’s costume but also mixes in enough Carnage flavor — like his toothy symbiote snarl and tendrils of red symbiote matter whipping wildly around him — to turn this deep-cut Marvel cosplay into a resounding success.

Spider-Carnage Is the Spider-Man/Carnage Hybrid the MCU Needs To Adapt Next

Spider-Carnage swinging through an alley.

It’s rumored that Tom Holland’s next MCU Spider-Man film will involve Venom and the King in Black to some degree, so it isn’t out of the realm of possibility that a new version of Carnage could debut as well, potentially setting up Spidey to bond with this Carnage Klyntar and giving Spider-Carnage a sliver of a chance at being properly adapted for the big screen. Regardless of whether Spider-Carnage as a character gets an official live-action green light anytime soon, fans can always rely on the cosplay community to produce stellar comic-accurate Spider-Man designs like this incredible Carnage-inspired hybrid outfit.
