Stephen Colbert has weighed in on the surge of memes surrounding Vice President Kamala Harris since she became the Democratic party’s presumptive presidential nominee. He also proudly embraced the label “brat,” treating the audience to a repeat performance of the Charli XCX “Apple” dance.
In his Wednesday night monologue, the Late Show host addressed Harris’ much memed “fell out of a coconut tree” speech from 2023. In it, Harris quickly shifted from laughingly offering a lighthearted metaphor to making an existential point about human existence.
“That whiplash tone shift could be the preview of some very interesting presidential announcements,” Colbert quipped. “‘I didn’t just slip on a banana peel into a kiddie pool full of pudding! This afternoon I ordered air strikes on Syria.'”
Colbert further weighed in on CNN’s awkward “Kamala is brat” segment, in which five adults over 32 attempted to wrap their heads around the Harris presidential campaign’s use of memes. Unfortunately, as Colbert noted, literally “printing out a meme and putting on your reading glasses” doesn’t quite give the impression that you’re up to date on current trends.
