According to Deadline, Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks have brought on Jim Mickle to write and direct a new “Gundam” live-action film. Plot details are being kept under wraps but the “Gundam” franchise follows the stories of various characters who pilot incredibly large robots, aka mecha. The series takes place in the future and features various space battles.
Folks might remember that this isn’t the first time that Legendary began development on a live-action “Gundam.” The studio originally worked out a deal with Netflix and filmmaker Jordan Vogt-Roberts for the film. However, that fell apart and Legendary is now moving in a different direction with the franchise.
Mickle is probably best known as the showrunner of the popular Netflix series “Sweet Tooth.” Prior to that, Mickle worked on films such as “In the Shadow of the Moon,” “Cold in July,” and “We Are What We Are.” He got his beginning in the realm of horror, with his breakout feature being “Stake Land” back in 2010.
It’s unclear when we might see “Gundam” arrive in theaters.
