“I realize the magnitude of this situation. But this is our mission – and we will not fail!” Netflix revealed a second teaser trailer for the film The Six Triple Eight, made by Tyler Perry. Set for release in December later this year. The Six Triple Eight is inspired by the first & only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas during World War II. 855 women joined up to fix the 3-year backlog of undelivered mail. Faced with discrimination and devastation of war, they managed to sort more than 17 million pieces of mail ahead of time. Written & directed by Perry, the film stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the lead officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. The full cast includes Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, with Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, and Sam Waterston, and Oprah Winfrey. Based on the article by Kevin M. Hymel, the film features an original song “The Journey” by Diane Warren, performed by H.E.R. with choreography by Debbie Allen. Well, I’ll be damned – this actually seems quite good, I can’t deny it. Though I’m a sucker for WWII movies and at least it’s not another romantic thriller by Tyler Perry.

The Six Triple Eight is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions – they were committed to serving their country with honor & distinction. Given an extraordinary mission, united in determination, these unsung heroes delivered hope and shattered barriers. The Six Triple Eight is directed by American producer / filmmaker Tyler Perry, director of many films including Madea’s Family Reunion, Why Did I Get Married?, Meet the Browns, The Family That Preys, I Can Do Bad All by Myself, For Colored Girls, Madea’s Big Happy Family, Good Deeds, Madea’s Witness Protection, Madea Christmas, The Single Moms Club, Boo! Madea Halloween, Acrimony, Nobody’s Fool, A Fall from Grace, A Jazzman’s Blues, Mea Culpa, and Divorce in the Black most recently. The screenplay is also written by Tyler Perry, based on the article “Fighting A Two-Front War” by Kevin M. Hymel published in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media. Produced by Perry, Nicole Avant, Angi Bones, Tony L. Strickland, Keri Selig, Carlota Espinosa. Netflix will debut Perry’s The Six Triple Eight film streaming on Netflix starting December 20th, 2024 late this year.
