Fly IMAX Doc Trailer

“It’s not about the fear or risk, it’s about the love of flying.” IMAX has revealed the main official trailer for a thrilling documentary film experience titled Fly, from filmmakers Christina Clusiau & Shaul Schwarz (who also made the acclaimed doc Trophy a few years ago). To stand on the edge of a cliff and throw your body into the wind, one has to be willing to lose everything. That could mean the love of your life, or it could be the life you love. Over seven years, Fly follows three couples entwined in the world of BASE jumping, risking everything for the rush of feeling truly alive. Equally heartfelt & hair-raising, this new doc Fly offers truly awesome big-screen viewing, inviting audiences to take the leap into a fully visceral experience that celebrates living your life and following your dreams into the beauty of human flight. Fly shows the passion for living that guides three couples whose love stories are unique and extraordinary. This isn’t the first BASE doc – there was also Sunshine Superman from 2015 (about Carl Boenish), which I also highly recommend watching. Fly will play in IMAX theaters for two days in early September – check out all the footage below.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Christina Clusiau & Shaul Schwarz’s doc Fly, direct from YouTube:

“For the past seven years, we have been documenting the lives of BASE jumpers. Our films, much like our approach, seek to raise questions rather than provide answers. Who are these individuals, and what drives them to risk their lives for a passion knowing it could possibly kill them? Standing on the edge of a cliff and leaping into the void requires a willingness to sacrifice everything—be it the love of your life or the life you love.” –Directors Shaul Schwarz & Christina Clusiau

Fly Doc Trailer

Hailed as “truly awesome big-screen viewing,” by POV Magazine and “thrilling and gut-wrenching”, Fly follows three couples entwined in the world of BASE jumping, risking everything for the rush of feeling truly alive: Jimmy Pouchert & Marta Empinotti, pioneering figures affectionately known as the Mom and Pop of BASE jumping; the fearless wingsuit pilot Scotty Bob Morgan and his newfound love, Julia Botelho Morgan; and resilient duo Amber Forte & Espen Fadnes, whose bond is tested by triumph & tragedy. Through breathtaking aerial footage, vérité scenes & intimate interviews, this documentary film explores the complex balance between passion and sacrifice. It’s also a poignant love story that celebrates the spirit of those who dare to defy gravity, capturing the essence of what it truly means to live on the edge. Fly is co-directed by filmmakers Christina Clusiau & Shaul Schwarz, both co-directors of the doc Trophy, and the two doc series “Immigration Nation” & “Shaun White: The Last Run” most recently. Also produced by Clusiau & Schwarz. This initially premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year and at HotDocs. NatGeo will debut Fly in IMAX cinemas for two nights only – on September 2nd & 3rd – this fall. Available on VOD + streaming after that. For more info, visit the film’s official site. Who’s down?
